Where Salta and Jujuy are dry rock and colour, Tucumán is sugar cane, citrus and cloud forest running up the eastern slope of the Andes. It is also where Argentina declared independence, in a house that still stands in the middle of the capital. It sits three hours south of Cafayate by road, which is how it reaches an itinerary.
The climb from the plain to Tafi del Valle runs up a gorge thick with cloud forest, with the river beside the road and the vegetation changing every few hundred metres. It is the reason to come by road rather than fly.
The drive is the argument
A green valley at two thousand metres, cooler than everything around it, with the standing stones at El Moll and the old Jesuit estancia. From here the road carries on to Cafayate through the Quilmes ruins.
Between two landscapes
The Casa Histórica in the middle of San Miguel de Tucumán is where the United Provinces declared independence from Spain. For anyone interested in how the country came to exist it is the single most important building in it.

The Buenos Aires to Salta or Jujuy flight is quoted separately or included depending on the package, and your quote states which, with the amount, so the total is clear before you book.
Summer rain can cut the gravel roads towards Cafayate or Iruya for a few hours. Our drivers check each stretch with the provincial road service every morning, and when one is closed we run the loop the other way round or move that leg a day. Wherever the schedule allows, we rebook the highlight inside your trip at no extra cost.
