Most of Patagonia has a season. Bariloche has four, and each one changes what the same lakes are for.
Swimming water by Patagonian standards, the Seven Lakes Road fully open, and up to 17 hours of light in December.
The classic season, and the busiest
Cerro Catedral is the largest ski area in South America, 20 minutes from town, and the lake view from the top is the reason people cross the world for it.
The only Patagonia we sell in winter
Every route on this page keeps a single hotel for the whole stay. The days go to the Circuito Chico, the lakes, and the table, rather than to packing.
The easiest logistics in Patagonia
Walkers should start at Bariloche hiking tours, and drivers at the Bariloche road trips page. To pair the lakes with the glaciers further south, see all Patagonia trips.
Bariloche is the one Patagonian base that changes season instead of closing. What changes is which Bariloche you get, and there is one real gap in the year.
The Seven Lakes Road fully open, swimming water by Patagonian standards, and up to 17 hours of light in December.
The classic season, and the busiest
Cerro Catedral runs roughly from the end of June to the first days of October, snow permitting. It is the largest ski area in South America and it sits 20 minutes from town.
Confirm the dates before booking flights
Too late for the autumn colours, too early for reliable snow, and the lifts are usually still down. Prices are at their lowest and the town is at its quietest.
For the lakes without anybody in them
Months in orange are the two full seasons. May is the emptiest month of the Bariloche year: the forests have dropped and the mountain has not opened yet.

Every quote we send lists this in writing, trip by trip. As a rule, this is how a Patagonia package is built.
Hotels selected and checked by our team; private transfers between airports, hotels and excursions; excursions with English-speaking local guides; entrance fees to Los Glaciares and Tierra del Fuego national parks; daily breakfast and the meals marked day by day; a local WhatsApp support line for the whole trip.
International flights to and from Argentina; travel insurance; meals not marked in the itinerary; personal expenses and gratuities; optional activities, which we price in writing beforehand. Domestic flights inside Patagonia are quoted separately or included depending on the package, and your quote states which, with the amount, so the total is clear before you book.
Patagonian wind changes plans, and we plan for it. Every key day has a same-region backup: if the wind closes the glacier boat, you see Perito Moreno from the walkways instead; if the Fitz Roy viewpoint is in cloud, we swap days inside your itinerary. Wherever the schedule allows, we rebook the highlight inside your trip at no extra cost.
