Hunting stopped here decades ago and the capybara, caiman and marsh deer around Colonia Carlos Pellegrini grew up without reason to run. You do not stalk anything: you get into a boat, and they are there, three metres away, ignoring you. It is a completely different kind of wildlife watching from the one people expect.
Roughly one and a half million hectares of lagoon, floating islands and flooded grassland in Corrientes. It is second only to the Pantanal in South America and it receives a tiny fraction of the visitors.
Huge, and almost empty
Giant anteaters, pampas deer, giant otters, macaws and, since 2021, jaguars have been reintroduced here in the most ambitious rewilding project in Argentina. Seeing a jaguar is unlikely; knowing they are back changes the place.
An ecosystem being rebuilt
Colonia Carlos Pellegrini is reached by a long dirt road from Mercedes or a transfer from Posadas, and that is precisely why it stays as it is. Plan a travel day at each end and it becomes easy.

Every quote we send lists this in writing, trip by trip. As a rule, this is how an Iberá package is built.
Hotels selected and checked by our team; private transfers between airports, hotels and excursions; excursions with English-speaking local guides; entrance fees to Iberá Provincial and National Park, and the guided outings run by the lodge; daily breakfast and the meals marked day by day; a local WhatsApp support line for the whole trip.
International flights to and from Argentina; travel insurance; meals not marked in the itinerary; personal expenses and gratuities; optional activities, which we price in writing beforehand. The Buenos Aires to Posadas or Corrientes flight and the road transfer to the lodge are quoted separately or included depending on the package, and your quote states which, with the amount, so the total is clear before you book.
Iberá is reached on earth roads that soften after a storm, and the lodges are built around that. When the track is wet we go out by boat or on horseback rather than by vehicle, and the night walk moves to the next dry evening. Capybaras, caimans and marsh deer are there either way. Wherever the schedule allows, we rebook the highlight inside your trip at no extra cost.
