Riding in Mendoza is an add-on, and it is worth knowing why

There is no packaged riding trip in Mendoza, and that is not an oversight. The rides here are half days out of a finca in the pre-cordillera, put together for the group that asks for them, and they sit inside a wine or mountain itinerary rather than replacing it. The trips below are the ones a ride gets added to.

What a ride here is

Half a day in the foothills

Out from a finca in the pre-cordillera, usually late in the afternoon and often ending at a table. A couple of hours in the saddle on criollo horses, not a day of covering ground.

An afternoon, not a day

Why it is not packaged

It moves with the group and the season

The riding operators around Mendoza are small and work to order, so the ride gets quoted with the rest of the trip instead of sitting on a shelf. Ask for it when you enquire and it goes into the itinerary.

Quoted with the trip

If riding is the point

Then go to the estancias

If you want the horse to be the reason for the trip rather than an afternoon inside it, the estancias of the pampas and Patagonia are built for exactly that, and Mendoza is not.

Where the estancias are

The estancia trips are at Argentina horse riding holidays and Argentina ranch vacations. Everything else the region does is at Mendoza tours.

Horseback Riding Mendoza FAQ's

No, horseback riding tours in Mendoza cater to all levels, from beginners to experienced riders. Instructors provide guidance and ensure a comfortable experience for everyone.

Comfortable clothing suitable for the weather is recommended, along with sturdy, closed-toe shoes. A hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses are advisable for sun protection. Long pants are preferred to prevent chafing from the saddle.

Tours can vary, ranging from a few hours to a full day. Some tours might include additional activities like wine tasting or a traditional Argentine asado, extending the duration.

Most tours have minimum age requirements, often around 8-12 years. There may also be weight limits for the safety of both the rider and the horse, typically around 220 pounds (100 kilograms). Always check with the tour provider for specific restrictions.

Yes, many operators offer the option of private tours, which can be tailored to your preferences and provide a more personal experience. Private tours are ideal for those seeking a more intimate adventure or with specific requirements.

What Your Mendoza Trip Includes

Every quote we send lists this in writing, trip by trip. As a rule, this is how a Mendoza package is built.

Included

In every package

Hotels selected and checked by our team; private transfers between airports, hotels and excursions; excursions with English-speaking local guides; tasting fees at the wineries listed in your itinerary, and park entrance fees where the route includes them; daily breakfast and the meals marked day by day; a local WhatsApp support line for the whole trip.

Not included

Said upfront

International flights to and from Argentina; travel insurance; meals not marked in the itinerary; personal expenses and gratuities; optional activities, which we price in writing beforehand. The Buenos Aires to Mendoza flight is quoted separately or included depending on the package, and your quote states which, with the amount, so the total is clear before you book.

If the mountain road closes, the day moves to the valley

The high Andes pass and the Aconcagua road close with snow in winter and after storms. When that happens we bring your Uco Valley or Luján de Cuyo day forward and keep the mountain for the next clear morning. Wherever the schedule allows, we rebook the highlight inside your trip at no extra cost.
