About a hundred and ten kilometres of paved road between Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes, with water in view almost the entire way. In a country where the good drives are usually separated by days of steppe, this is the one you can do before lunch, which is exactly why it is the most driven road in Argentina.
The last gravel sections were sealed in the 2010s, so what used to be a dust run is now a smooth drive through southern beech forest. It also means it is busy in January and February, and empty in spring.
Go in spring or autumn
Bariloche to San Martín and back is a long day with stops, and it is the version most people want. On two wheels it is one of the best day rides in South America.
The classic day out
The alternative is to treat the road as a spine and sleep along it: Villa La Angostura, San Martín, the lakes off the main line. It turns a drive into a week in the lake district.
When the stops matter
The rest of the region is at Bariloche tours, the same road on two wheels at Patagonia motorcycle tours, and the longer southern drives at Patagonia road trips.

Every quote we send lists this in writing, trip by trip. As a rule, this is how a Patagonia package is built.
Hotels selected and checked by our team; private transfers between airports, hotels and excursions; excursions with English-speaking local guides; entrance fees to Los Glaciares and Tierra del Fuego national parks; daily breakfast and the meals marked day by day; a local WhatsApp support line for the whole trip.
International flights to and from Argentina; travel insurance; meals not marked in the itinerary; personal expenses and gratuities; optional activities, which we price in writing beforehand. Domestic flights inside Patagonia are quoted separately or included depending on the package, and your quote states which, with the amount, so the total is clear before you book.
Patagonian wind changes plans, and we plan for it. Every key day has a same-region backup: if the wind closes the glacier boat, you see Perito Moreno from the walkways instead; if the Fitz Roy viewpoint is in cloud, we swap days inside your itinerary. Wherever the schedule allows, we rebook the highlight inside your trip at no extra cost.
