The Argentine side puts you on top of the falls, on catwalks that run out over the water to the edge of the Devil s Throat. The Brazilian side puts you opposite them, far enough back to see the whole horseshoe at once. Neither substitutes for the other, and one full day each is the honest requirement.
Lower circuit, upper circuit, the train and the Devil s Throat catwalk come to five or six hours on foot in heat and humidity. It is the immersive side and it is the one that needs the whole day.
Where you get close
One long panoramic walkway facing the falls, finishing on a platform in the spray. It takes a morning, needs a passport and gives you the view that everybody recognises.
Where you see the scale
Crossing to the Brazilian side is a border, and some nationalities need a visa arranged in advance. It is the single most common reason a two-day itinerary turns into a one-sided one.
