The estancias near Buenos Aires are a day out, not a place to stay

Two hours west of the city the land goes completely flat and stays that way for a thousand kilometres, and the ranches on it open for the day: a ride, the stock work, an asado under the trees and back to town for the evening. Staying the night is possible and it is a different trip, usually further out and further from everything else you came to do.

The day

Ride, watch, eat, sleep it off

A morning on a horse or in a cart, the gauchos working the stock, and then a long lunch that most people do not fully recover from. It is unhurried by design and it is the point.

Half riding, half eating

San Antonio de Areco

The town that goes with it

Two hours west, the traditional centre of gaucho culture, with silversmiths, a museum and a plaza that has not changed much. Most estancia days pass through it and it is worth the stop.

The gaucho town

Staying over

Possible, and a different plan

Some estancias take guests overnight, and it is a genuinely good way to spend a night. It also puts you two hours from Buenos Aires with a car needed both ways, so it belongs in a longer trip rather than a short city break.

Only on longer trips

The estancias across the country are at Argentina ranch vacations, the riding at Argentina horse riding holidays, and the city at Buenos Aires tours.

Buenos Aires Ranch Hoilday FAQ's

A ranch tour offers an authentic experience of Argentina's gaucho culture. You'll visit a traditional estancia where you can see gauchos demonstrate their horsemanship and herding skills. Activities often include horseback riding, watching folk music and dance performances, and enjoying a classic Argentine asado, a barbecue that's a staple of local cuisine.

Yes, ranch tours are family-friendly. Children can engage in safe, supervised activities like horseback riding, and many ranches have spaces and activities tailored for young visitors. It's a great way for kids to learn about rural Argentine life and traditions.

Ranch tours can vary in length. Day trips are common, offering a full day of activities including lunch. However, for a more immersive experience, some ranches offer overnight stays where you can enjoy the tranquility of the countryside under the stars.

No, prior experience isn't necessary. Ranches cater to all levels, from beginners to experienced riders. Professional guides are available to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Comfort is key. Wear casual, weather-appropriate clothing. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended for horseback riding. Don't forget sunscreen, a hat for sun protection, and perhaps a light jacket, as the weather can change quickly.

Most ranches are located in the Pampas region, roughly an hour to an hour and a half's drive from Buenos Aires city center. Some tour packages include transportation, making it convenient to reach these rural retreats.

What Your Buenos Aires Trip Includes

Every quote we send lists this in writing, trip by trip. As a rule, this is how a Buenos Aires package is built.

Included

In every package

Hotels selected and checked by our team; private transfers between airports, hotels and excursions; excursions with English-speaking local guides; entrance fees to the museums, shows and tastings listed in your itinerary; daily breakfast and the meals marked day by day; a local WhatsApp support line for the whole trip.

Not included

Said upfront

International flights to and from Argentina; travel insurance; meals not marked in the itinerary; personal expenses and gratuities; optional activities, which we price in writing beforehand. Domestic flights on to other regions are quoted separately or included depending on the package, and your quote states which, with the amount, so the total is clear before you book.

Rain in Buenos Aires does not cost you a day

The city works in any weather, and that is the advantage of starting here. If a storm closes the delta boat at Tigre or an open air walk, we move to the indoor half of your itinerary the same day: Teatro Colón, MALBA, a tango hall with dinner or a Palermo tasting. Wherever the schedule allows, we rebook the highlight inside your trip at no extra cost.

Tell us when you can travel. We will build the route.
