The first point of interest we will see will be the Bories Refrigerator National Historical Monument, founded in 1913 by the Tierra del Fuego Mining Company and which for more than 60 years was the most important slaughter center in Southern Patagonia (and which today is a luxury hotel-museum). We can also see the waterfall and cliffs of Condors, and then we will disembark in Puerto Toro to begin a walk led by our guide along the banks of the Tempanos Lagoon through a native forest of coigües, ñirres and plums. After breakfast at the hotel, you must go to the bus terminal to take the 7:00am bus (we recommend being at least 10 minutes before departure) to go to Torres del Paine National Park. You'll travel through beautiful landscapes until you reach the main entrance of Laguna Amarga, where you need to register with CONAF (park rangers). Here you can transfer to “Transporte Las Torres”, who will take you to the Welcome Center. You register at the Cerro Paine Reserve and, after about 5 minutes of walking, you will arrive at Torre Central where you must check in, either at a shelter or camping, before starting your trekking. Today's hike begins in the Ascencio Valley, enjoying its extensive forests. During the final ascent, you cross an immense field of giant rocks until you reach one of the most emblematic viewpoints in the world, the famous Base Torres viewpoint. At a height of 900 meters above sea level, marvel at the 3 granite towers (north, central and south) and the brilliant turquoise glacial lake at its feet. Take beautiful photos and enjoy your box lunch before returning the same way back to Torre Central. After a long day and enjoying the Towers, treat yourself to dinner at the refuge.
Enjoy breakfast and then request your box lunch to start the walk deep in the park to the Los Cuernos or Francés refuge. During this walk you will pass through beautiful crystalline streams and you can admire the glaciers that hang from Mount Almirante Nieto at 2,670 meters. You can see the majestic condors soaring from above and skirt the fascinating waters of Lake Nordenskjöld. Continue along the trail until you reach Refugio Los Cuernos or Domo Francés, where you can relax all night long.
We recommend starting early! This hike will take you to the heart of Torres del Paine National Park. After breakfast, order your box lunch and get ready for a day of amazing Patagonian landscapes.
After 2 hours of walking you will pass by the French campsite and you will arrive at the entrance of the French Valley. You can leave your backpack at the Italian camp, where the park rangers are located, and begin your ascent to the French Valley.
Go up large rocks and then continue through the forest until you reach the French viewpoint. Here you will be rewarded with incredible views of Los Cuernos, turquoise glacial lagoons and amazing hanging glaciers that fall down the east side of Paine Grande Mountain (3,050 meters above sea level). If you're lucky, you can hear the roaring sound of the glacier and the water falling, and it's also very common to witness an avalanche.
Enjoy your box lunch and a well-deserved rest. Descend along the same path back to the Italian camp. From here, walk to the Paine Grande refuge (2.5 hours). Take it easy since it's practically flat. In the evening you can enjoy a delicious dinner at the refuge.
After breakfast, remember to order your box lunch and start today's trekking. The walk begins through a narrow and sinuous valley that leads to the Los Patos Lagoon. As you continue progressing, you'll begin to see parts of the vast Southern Ice Fields, as well as the ice floes of Lake Grey. After passing the sometimes very windy viewpoint, the path descends through a mountainous forest until reaching the Grey refuge. From here, if you continue walking for about 10 minutes, you will arrive at the Grey Glacier viewpoint, where you will find yourself face to face with this massive blue ice. Dinner will be served at the shelter between 18:00 and 21:00 hrs. OPTIONAL HANGING BRIDGES: For an unforgettable view of Grey Glacier, set aside an extra 3 to 4 hours (round trip) past the refuge towards the famous hanging bridges. It is by far the best viewpoint of the glacier. In addition to admiring the impressive ice, you can see the deep gorges formed by the rivers and waterfalls coming from the Olguín Cordón. If you're lucky, you might witness ice calving from the glacier into the cold waters of Lake Grey.
If you didn’t have the chance to visit the hanging bridges the previous afternoon, you can take the morning to explore the spectacular panoramic views of Grey Glacier. Then, continue along the same trail back to Paine Grande to catch the catamaran at 18:35 to Pudeto, from where you can take the bus back to Puerto Natales at 19:15. The approximate arrival time in Natales is 21:30. Overnight in Puerto Natales: Costa Australis, Vendaval Hotel (or similar). Meals included: Breakfast.
At the appropriate time, we will pick you up at the selected hotel to take you to Puerto Natales airport (Private service, driver only). Upon your arrival at Santiago International Airport, our driver will be waiting for you to take you to the selected hotel (Driver only - in private).
