We will embark on the Big Ice excursion, diving deep into the glacier for a physically demanding adventure on both the ice and in the forest. This unique experience includes a 3-hour ice walk and a 4-hour forest hike, guided by two mountain experts in groups of up to 10 people.
Our journey begins with a 70 km drive from El Calafate to the Bajo de Las Sombras port, followed by a 20-minute boat ride across Lake Argentino. At the refuge, our specialized guides will organize us into subgroups and lead a 2-hour hike through the moraine, offering panoramic views of the glacier and surrounding forest.
Once on the glacier, we will wear crampons and explore ice formations like blue lagoons, crevices, sinkholes, and caves. Over 3 hours, guides will share insights about the glacier’s features, with stunning views of nearby peaks such as Dos Picos, Pietrobelli, and Cervantes.
Afterward, we will return to the refuge, take the boat back to the port, and, if arranged, visit the footbridges for breathtaking views of the glacier from the mainland.

The journey continues with a 5-hour trek through the Fossil Canyon, where we will encounter a remarkable concentration of fossils, remnants of the last marine invasion that shaped the region.

Here, we will be greeted by an unparalleled panoramic view, where the majestic granite towers rise into the sky, surrounded by a turquoise lake formed by glacial melt. Along the way, we’ll encounter the park’s rich biodiversity, offering chances to spot endemic birds, guanacos, and other wonders of Patagonian nature.
