Valle Fértil

Villa San Agustin del Valle Fertil, known as Valle Fertil, is a natural oasis located in the northwest of Argentina, 250 km from the city of San Juan. It is known for its impressive landscape of mountains, rivers and green valleys. It has a wide variety of trails, walking and hiking trails, bird watching, as well as opportunities for water sports on the San Juan River.

Archeological sites around Valle Fértil

The valley is also famous for its archaeological ruins, which date back to pre-Columbian times. Visitors can explore the archaeological sites and learn about the history and culture of the ancient civilisations that inhabited the area.

What to do in Valle Fértil

Among the main attractions you can visit:

Valle Fértil Provincial Park: it is a multiple use reserve, a protected area. It covers part of the Departments of Caucete, Angaco, Jáchal and Valle Fértil. It has two circuits for the sighting of more than 200 species.

Ischigualasto Provincial Park: Also known as Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon). It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The tour allows visitors to learn about the history of life on the planet. It has desert landscapes with rocky formations similar to the lunar surface, hence the name. It is advisable to do it by car or with a guided tour, stopping to get to know the different formations.

Las Tres Cruces: it is a small hill with a story known as “La Leyenda de Las Tres Cruces” (The Legend of the Three Crosses).

Piedras del Mundo Museum: specialised museum, science museum.

Cristo De La Hermandad: it is a hill with a monument and a statue of Christ in its viewpoint.
