La Boca

It is a picturesque neighbourhood located in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA). Its name is due to the fact that the mouths of the Riachuelo river that flows into the Río de la Plata are located in this area. For many years this area was the natural port of the province. This neighbourhood stands out for being very colourful and for the amount of tourists that visit it every day looking for the essence of tango and the porteño culture.

La Boca's main attractions

  • Caminito Museum Street: a picturesque street with colourful houses and street artists.
  • Usina del Arte: it is a cultural centre, a venue for shows and multiple cultural and gastronomic activities in the neighbourhood of La Boca. It is located in the old Usina Don Pedro de Mendoza building.
  • Boca Juniors Stadium, La Bombonera: home of the Boca Juniors football club, one of the most important and popular teams in Argentina. With a capacity for more than 60000 spectators, it is the perfect place to experience the passion for Argentinean football.
  • Museo de la Pasión Boquense: it is a football themed museum founded in 2001 dedicated to the history and characters of CABJ.
  • Museo de Bellas Artes de la Boca Quinquela Martin: it is located in the heart of La Boca. It is an institution that the Boquense artist donated to the neighbourhood to create a cultural, educational and health centre.
  • Colón Fábrica: This space has been adapted to preserve and exhibit the scenery, props and costumes used in the productions of the Teatro Colón. It is located in the Arts District. It can be visited freely or you can hire a guided tour with theatre staff.
  • Teatro de la Ribera: it is a theatre dedicated exclusively to tango.
  • Fundación Proa: it is a private art centre.
  • Torre del Fantasma: it is a building of Catalan architecture, where one of the artists who rented it committed suicide. From there, it is said that strange apparitions occur and that is why the name became popular.
