Jujuy

Jujuy is one of the most fascinating, attractive and historic provinces of Argentina. With its mountains, valleys and ravines, it has an unusual scenic beauty, super colourful and a very rich cultural heritage.
It is located in the Norte Grande Region of Argentina. At the beginning of the Spanish conquest, these lands were already populated by different native peoples, mainly by the Quechua.
If you are looking to explore breathtaking natural landscapes, immerse yourself in the culture and history of a region, as well as experience the local gastronomy, Jujuy is the ideal destination.
One of the must-sees of this northern province is the famous Cerro de los Siete Colores in Purmamarca. This town itself is a true architectural jewel with adobe buildings and thatched roofs.

About Jujuy

This tourist destination also has natural and national parks and reserves, where you can go hiking through the subtropical jungle and observe an incredible variety of flora and fauna.
Jujuy also stands out for its popular Carnival celebration, every year in February. A real colourful party with comparsas, eccentric costumes, dancing, partying, music shows and typical food. It lasts 8 days and the tradition has indigenous, Spanish and Creole reminiscences.
Another important place to explore in this province is Tilcara, a colonial town with a strong pre-Hispanic and archaeological legacy, where you can visit the Pucará de Tilcara, an imposing stone fortress dating back to pre-Columbian times.
As far as gastronomy is concerned, the typical dishes of the region are: empanadas, humita, locro and tamales. Therefore, there is enough variety for you to make an entertaining gastronomic tour.
Continuing south, you will find the city of San Salvador de Jujuy, the capital of the province and the most populated. The old part of San Salvador concentrates an exciting group of colonial buildings.

Humahuaca

It is in the heart of the Quebrada de Humahuaca.
Humahuaca, meaning Sacred River in Aymara, is a beautiful town founded by Spanish colonisers at the end of the 16th century.
It is characterised by the colourful landscapes that the Andes Mountains offer in this region and a rich archaeological heritage that is represented by its cave paintings, pucarás, which are pre-Hispanic ruins.
In this place you can make a variety of excursions, visits, walks and hikes. Besides, you can delight your palate with the typical food of the area.

Purmamarca

It is the most picturesque and charming village of the Quebrada de Humahuaca.
It is a fascinating place, full of culture, history and natural beauty. Purmamarca is known for its small streets with its artisans, who show their beautiful loom designs, wool and alpaca weavings, as well as leather, wood and clay works.
Among the most important and unmissable places to visit is the Cerro de los Siete Colores, a mountainous formation that stands out for its reddish and ochre tones. You can also visit the Church of Santa Rosa de Lima, an architectural jewel of the XVII century.
In this destination you can also enjoy the marvellous Carnival festivities.
